A wooden, open-air, covered pavilion was constructed in 1921 to ease overcrowding on campus. "The Shack," as it was called by students and faculty alike, was enclosed around 1923 and used briefly as the Art Hall. Once the new Education Building, now Ferguson Social Sciences, was completed in 1926, this temporary structure was no longer necessary. "The Shack" was located between Industrial Hall and West Hall on the north side of campus.
