The statue of William L. Mayo in front of the Heritage House was sculpted by alumnus and artist Gordon R. Thomas. President Jerry D. Morris commissioned the project and the Texas A&M University-Commerce Alumni Association provided funds for the bronze casting in honor of the inauguration of the tenth president, Dr. Keith D. McFarland. The statue was dedicated at Homecoming, October 30, 1999.
