Description
This is an index of an oral history interview with Naomi Maynard Bassett. It was conducted February 10, 2020. The interviewer is Louise Skinner. The videographer is Sandy Bond.
The interview focuses on Naomi Maynard Bassett’s memories of growing up in Delta County, Texas.
Naomi Maynard Bassett was born on October 31, 1919 to Merly Mae McKee and John William Maynard. She was born in Cooper, Texas at the jailhouse where her father worked as a jailer and her mother cooked for the inmates. Her father also worked as a mail carrier and a volunteer firefighter. Bassett recalls memories of family gatherings, editing the Cooper High School newspaper, and local businesses. After graduating from high school, Bassett worked at the courthouse and then the First National Bank in Cooper. She married Lysander Wallace “Dub” Bassett, Jr and eventually moved to Paris, Texas.
