The reverse side of a black and white photography. [typewritten inscription, bottom] BRIGADIER GENERAL H. L. Neely, Commanding 5th Brigade, Texas Division, U. C. V. Harrison L. Neely was born July 22, 1843, son of Greenlief and Nancy Neely from Indiana. They pioneered at Pleasant Hill (Nelta), and had eight children who attended first school at Nelta. H.L. Neely married Algeronia Maxwell and they had seven (or 8) children after the Civil War. One son became a Methodist preacher.. H.L. Neely was a farmer and later came to Sulphur Springs and ran the Glasscock Hotel. Later he moved to Granbury, Texas, where he died April 13, 1913. He was a Mason. Some of his children attended Central College in Sulphur Springs. His children were Randolph Neely, Lawrence L. Neely, Olivia Cooper, Mary Dyer, Lora Hudson, and Rosalee Goff, and a preacher son.
