Description
This interview focuses on Frances Whitlock Klein's memories of growing up in Delta County, Texas and her career as a teacher.
Frances Whitlock Klein was born to Clovis Wibur "Dobbin” and Lillie Mae Berry Whitlock in 1946. She grew up in Cooper, Texas and recalls time spent downtown on the Square, visiting grandparents in Enloe, Texas, and attending church. Her memories also include roller skating, sock hops, and riding horses.
After high school, Klein worked at East Texas State University while attending college and completing an early childhood education degree. She taught in Greenville, Texas during desegregation and recalls instances of racial discrimination faced by her colleagues. Her husband is Keith Klein.
