Abstract

An exploratory factor analysis (n = 225) yielded a four-factor solution: power/physicality, ambition, emotional vulnerability/sensitivity, and decision-making/leadership. Descriptive statistics were examined to analyze perceptions of traditional masculinity and ambition in young adult males. The majority of respondents disagreed with traditional views of masculinity and over 20% of participants indicated they had no opinion on the majority of the ambition survey items. Implications for counselors who serve this population are discussed.
