West Dormitory was a three-story brick dormitory for men constructed after the 1911 fire, on a newly-acquired six-acre tract of land donated by Commerce citizens. West Dormitory sat vacant starting in 1917 due to the ban on dormitories on State Normal College campuses. President Binnion was able to convince the State Normal College Board of Regents to reverse their policy on dormitories in 1920 and was given $60,000 to renovate the building for female students. The building reopened in 1922 as the Women's Building, later called West Dormitory. In the early 1940s, the dormitory was remodeled as cooperative housing for female students and later veterans and their families. West Dormitory was located northwest of present-day Ferguson Social Sciences Building near the corner of Bois D'Arc and Lee Streets. Like many of the early buildings, West Dormitory faced Monroe Street.
