Sowers Education South was originally known as the Business Administration and Audio-Visual Education Building. Business Administration occupied the two-story front portion of the building, while Audio-Visual Education occupied the single story back of the building. When the McDowell Administration Building was completed, the Business Department moved out. The building underwent major renovations in 1970-71 and again in the mid-1990s and was renamed Sowers Education South after Dr. J. Cullen Sowers, Provost and Dean of the Graduate School. It currently houses the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. Sowers Education South is located in the center of campus between the Velma K. Waters Library and Ferguson Social Sciences buildings.
