This collection contains materials related to the activities of the East Texas War Information Center. East Texas State Teachers College, now Texas A&M University-Commerce, established the East Texas War Information Center in 1942. It operated from the college library and was charged with collecting and providing access to publications related to World War II. Other colleges and universities established simiar centers across the country. They were also called Defense Information Centers and Victory Information Centers. Over 4,000 centers were established during the course of World War II.
