This collection contains photographs, game film footage, and a media guide for the 1972 NAIA Football Championship held at East Texas State University (ETSU), now Texas A&M University-Commerce, on December 9, 1972. Photographs and game film in the collection are from the championship game. The media guide is a preseason publication that highlights players on the roster, coaches, team history, and information about upcoming opposing schools that year.
The 1972 football season began in September of that year with a game at Abilene Christian College. By the end of the regular season, the team had won eight games, lost two, and won the Lone Star Conference title. In the playoffs, East Texas State defeated Central State University, now University of Central Oklahoma, in the semifinal game. East Texas State hosted the championship at Memorial Stadium, where they defeated Carson-Newman College, now Carson-Newman University, by a final score of 21-18. The victory gave East Texas State their first official NAIA football championship in school history.
