Bullwinkle

In 1971 the first documented live lion cub made its appearance at a homecoming football game. Its name was Bullwinkle. For years there had been talk of acquiring a live lion mascot. Several social organizations in the 1960s offered to sponsor a lion cub to live on campus or at a zoo in Greenville, Texas. In 1984 the Inter-Residence Hall Council decided not to sponsor a live lion at the homecoming game, citing liability issues. It is unclear whether they had sponsored the live lion in the past.
